Mohair first sale for 2021

The first sale of the 2021 summer season took place in Port Elizabeth on 9 February 2021, with 53 289 kg on offer of which 97% was sold. Although the offering of the first sale is always mixed and varied in length, the buyers actively competed for the small quantity of mohair on offer.

The good competition for mohair between the buying houses has resulted in a 25% increase in the average market indicator (27% in Dollar terms) compared to the last winter sale of 2020 to close on R329.19 per kg.

RMS certified mohair continued to attract the most interest from the mohair buyers.

A highest price of R640.00 per kg was paid for a bale of average style 24 micron kid mohair.

Compared to the previous sale, prices were as follows:

Kids Up 20%

Young Goats Up 35%

Fine Adults Up 18%

Strong Adults Up 16%

Average Up 25%

The second sale of the 2021 summer season will take place on 2 March 2021.
