New Zealand Wool Market Report (12 January 2023)

Both centres selling today in the first sale of the year with the North Island offering 10,000 bales and the South Island offering 4,400 bales.  The selection consisted of 40% crossbred fleece, good/average style, 36.0 to 39.0 micron, 35% crossbred/hogget second shear, bulk 75mm, good/average style, 10% associated oddments, 10% new season lambs and 5% miscellaneous types. 

Indian subcontinent main with support from China and local carpet mills.

Fleece: Good style crossbred and hogget fleece 3% cheaper. Poorer style crossbred fleece very firm.

Second Shears: Crossbred and hogget second shear 2% cheaper.

Lambs: Lambs fleece 3.5% cheaper.

Oddments: All descriptions up to 5% dearer.

Passings: 11% passed in.

Next Auction – North Island only offering 7,500 bales, Thursday 19th January.
