Global recognition for New Zealand wool innovations
Two pioneering Kiwi companies showcased the future of strong wool at leading global industry events in the United States this April, with both named as finalists and one taking home a top award.
Auckland-based Lanaco was a finalist in the FILTXPO™ 25 Innovation Awards in Miami for its EcoStatic® ML Series Filter Media. This is a 100% bio-based wool filter that replaces plastic in high-performance air purification. Already trusted by NASA and global brands, EcoStatic® stands out for its low energy use and high efficiency, even in humid conditions.
Meanwhile, Wellington’s Woolchemy won the Raw Materials Achievement Award at IDEA® 25 for its ground-breaking neweFibre – the world’s first hygiene-grade wool fibre for use in disposable products like nappies and feminine care. Designed to replace petroleum-based layers, Woolchemy’s patented fibre delivers better skin health, moisture control and sustainability.
Woolchemy CEO Derelee Potroz-Smith says the win is a proud moment for New Zealand wool innovation. “neweFibre is the foundation of our future. It’s proof that when we innovate with nature, incredible things happen.”
Both companies are proving what’s possible when Kiwi ingenuity meets strong wool to bring natural, renewable solutions to global markets.
