New Zealand Market Report (28 August 2025)

The market generally tended dearer. South Island offering 6,930 bales and North Island offering 6,730 bales.

Selection consisted of 25% crossbred fleece good/average colour, 34% crossbred second shears mainly good colour, 50/100mm, 7% crossbred lambs good/average colour, 14% associated oddments average/poor colour, 9% halfbred fleece, 3% halfbred oddments, 3% merino fleece, 2% merino oddments and 3% miscellaneous types.

The market showed strong demand across most types with pressure on good colour shears.  Based on the selection, the main buyer was Europe with support from the United Kingdom, local Australasian mills and China.

Fleece Crossbred fleece all descriptions fully firm. Halfbred fleece mostly firm. Merino fleece generally 3% dearer.

Shears: Good colour crossbred shears sellers favour. Poor colour 3% dearer.

Lambs: Average colour 1% cheaper.

Oddments: Carding oddments 3% cheaper.
