New Zealand Market Report (25 September 2025)

South Island only offering 6,300 bales. Selection consisted of 11% merino fleece, 11% halfbred fleece, 22% crossbred fleece mostly good colour, 19% hogget fleece good colour, 12% crossbred second shear good colour 50/100mm, 3% lambs good/average colour, 21% associated oddments all descriptions and 1% miscellaneous types.

Market showed a very strong sentiment on a wide selection with the general lack of quantity for any specific types continuing to drive the market. 

Merino fleece wool extreme on the back of two weeks strong selling in Australia since NZ last sale. 

The selection was mostly good white colour resulting in premiums being offered on the more favourable types.  Main buyers were Europe, China and the United Kingdom with support from local Australasian mills.

Fleece: Merino fleece 14% dearer on the back of the Australian market. Half bred fleece – 13% dearer. Crossbred fleece good colour – 2% dearer. Crossbred fleece average colour – 9% dearer.

Crossbred hoggets – up to 6% dearer.

Shears: Crossbred shears up to 4% dearer.

Oddments: Crossbred oddments all descriptions generally 4% dearer.
