Rupert Murdoch to Sell Prime Australian Sheep Seedstock Assets
Rupert Murdoch is selling Springfield, a 947.5-hectare (2,341-acre) premier sheep breeding enterprise located near Cootamundra in New South Wales, with price expectations around $20 million (AUD). The Springfield is a highly productive, improved property capable of running 11,500 dry sheep equivalents, featuring a renovated four-bedroom homestead, a manager’s cottage, and modern sheep-handling infrastructure.
The sale includes the renowned Bogo Genetics (Bogo Merino Stud and Glenfinnan Prime Lamb Genetics), which sells over 350 rams annually.
The move is described as a strategic consolidation, with the Murdoch family focusing its agricultural operations on the nearby Cavan Station.
The property and studs are being offered by LAWD, with expressions of interest closing on March 12.
While this sale involves a property owned by Murdoch’s broader farming business (linked to Cavan Station), it is separate from the main 10,000-hectare Cavan Station near Yass, which he has owned since the 1960s. The sale comes amid high demand for sheep breeding properties in the region.
