A New Voice for Wool Science: India Wool Research Authority Joins IWTO

The International Wool Textile Organisation (IWTO) recently welcomed its newest member, an autonomous cooperative research organisation called the Wool Research Association (WRA). Based in India, the WRA is a leading exponent of wool science, providing the research and data-driven insights that the industry needs.

The WRA was founded in 1963 as a collective initiative of the Indian woollen textile industry, with the support of the Ministry of Textiles.

It has since grown into India’s primary institute for the research, testing, consultancy, training and technical support for the country’s wool industry.

WRA supports the entire Indian wool and textile industry, from major national or multinational operations to small, cottage businesses. WRA works closely with technical and performance textile sectors, educational institutions and international clients. It provides the scientific research and data that drives efficient and sustainable operations.

However, the WRA’s reach extends far beyond India. Its test reports are accepted globally, thanks to its accreditation with the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL). This accreditation conforms to ISO/IEC 17025 standards.

The WRA chose to join the IWTO because its work in wool research, quality standards and innovation matches IWTO’s global focus on wool technology and sustainability.

Aside from and in connection with its testing services, WRA also provides mechanical processing, chemical processing, and dyeing. It is a key player in the development of textile products and offers training and consultancy services to wool businesses.
