British Wool – Sale Report (BW218 – 28th April 2026)
Prices in the British Wool sale on 28th April were generally firm sale on sale with a virtually full clearance.
Bidding was slightly hesitant for the first few lots but became more confident as it became clear that prices were holding steady with the previous sale. It should be noted that a significant number of the lots in the offer were below the usual size and that the offer included several once per year speciality types.
The British Wool index was down 0.6% sale on sale at 2.424 in BW218 with the market further consolidating. Most core types traded within 1% of the previous sale. The average greasy sale price of £1.632 per kg was 3% lower than in BW217 but this was largely driven by the mix of wools in the offer. BW218 included a number of organic certified lots which once again attracted a significant premium over the equivalent non-organic grades.
- Clearance: 98.6%
- Total weight sold: 1,126 tonnes
- Average clean price: £2.483 per kg
- Average greasy price: £1.632 per kg
British Wool has 2.4 million kg of the 2025 clip left to sell and only has two sales scheduled through May and June. Assuming that demand holds steady there will be very little supply to carry over into the first sale of the 2026 season in late July.
The volumes sold, clearances by wool type, and price changes in BW218 were as below. The next British Wool sale is in three weeks’ time on 19th May.
