Peter Ackroyd MBE (1949–2026)

The global wool industry has lost one of its most respected voices with the passing of Peter Ackroyd MBE (1949–2026).

A towering figure in the international wool and textile industry, Peter devoted more than 50 years to advancing the interests of wool. He served as Chairman of the Campaign for Wool, President of the International Wool Textile Organisation (IWTO), and Global Strategic Advisor to The Woolmark Company.

Throughout his distinguished career, Peter made an extraordinary contribution to the promotion, development and understanding of wool, earning the admiration and respect of growers, processors, manufacturers and retailers around the world. Few people possessed such a deep understanding of the global wool textile industry, and his insight, knowledge and thoughtful commentary helped shape industry thinking for decades.

On a personal note, I will miss Peter greatly—not only for his wisdom and generosity, but also for his warm Yorkshire hospitality and the insightful conversations we shared over many years.
