British Wool – Wool Sale Report (BW123 – 25th May 2021)
BW123 had a 96% clearance with prices generally in the sellers favour on the combing types and in the buyers favour on the carpet types. The average greasy sale price of 70.2p / kg was 2% higher than the previous sale but this was supported by a number of lots of Bluefaced Leicester which were particularly well sought after.
Demand for the mountain wools remained soft. The British Wool Index increased by 0.4% sale on sale which was more representative of the overall market.

· Fine wool 100%,
· Medium wool 100%,
· Mule wool 100%,
· Hill wool 95%,
· Mountain wool 86%,
· Lamb 100%.
Prices were comparable to BW122;
Fine: Hoggs No1 – buyers favour.
Hoggs No2 – fully firm.
Ewes No1 – firm. Ewes No2 – 1.5% dearer.
Lt Grey – buyers favour.
Romney: Ewes No2 – 1.5% dearer. Medium: Hoggs No1 & No2 – sellers favour. Ewes No1 – 2% dearer. Ewes No2 –1.5% dearer.
Naturally discoloured – buyers favour. Lt Grey – sellers favour. Mules: Hoggs No1 – 1.5% dearer. Ewes No1 – 1.5% dearer. Ewes No2 – 1-3% dearer.
All Cott grades – firm to sellers favour. Cheviots: Hoggs No2 – fully 7.5% dearer. Ewes No2 – 1% dearer. Cross grades – firm. Hill: Fine – buyers favour. Medium – fully firm. Swaledale: Grey – firm. Blackface: Medium No1 – 1% dearer. Fine No1 – 2% dearer. No2 – firm. Cotts – buyers favour.
Welsh: No1 – buyers favour. No2 – firm. Coloured kempy – 1.5% cheaper. Lamb: A small offering of lambs sold at similar levels to BW122.
